Одной из первых дэт-металлических групп. Первоначально основанная в 1983 году как Mantas, изменила свое название на Death (Смерть) в конце 1984 года.
В 2001 году, 13 декабря, умирает от рака мозга лидер и основатель группы - Чак Шульдинер. После его смерти группа выпустила пару неизданных альбомов и распалась.
